About

ribbon_cutThe New Zealand International School – Jakarta (NZIS) is a private, international school located in Kemang, South Jakarta, Indonesia. It was established in 2002 for expatriate and local students living in Jakarta. It is the only school in Indonesia to offer a New Zealand based curriculum.

NZIS has 175 students aged 2 to 18 from about 36 nationalities. The school follows the world renowned curriculum models for Kindergarten and Primary School from New Zealand. The secondary campus in a similar vein to many New Zealand secondary schools offers Cambridge International Examinations. Cambridge International Examinations is the world’s largest provider of international education programmes and qualifications.
NZIS has two campuses in Kemang that are about 100 metres from each other. The primary campus caters for the younger students aged 2 to 12 and the secondary campus looks after the emerging young adults.

History

The first day of school for NZIS was 2nd September 2002. NZIS began with 3 Teachers from New Zealand and 12 students at the original campus on Jalan Benda. Seven months later on 14 April 2003 Mr Chris Elder – Ambassador of New Zealand to Indonesia – officially opened the School. The enrolment by then had reached 35 students. The school grew quickly and in August 2004 more space was secured at LPPI, The Banking Institute on Kemang Raya, to house the Secondary Students.
The role steadily increased across all year levels causing the expansion plans to be accelerated. The Secondary school outgrew the LPPI premises. Searching for additional premises was an exciting time eventually resulting in the securing of the current location of the Secondary campuses on Jalan Kemang Raya No. 70. This occurred on 24 July 2006.

Fortunately this location is close to the Secondary campus allowing the Office administration for both campuses to be also located on this site.

In 2010 the Early Childhood Centre on Kemang Selatan I was enlarged and refurbished. The Centre was officially opened by the then New Zealand Minister of Education – Anne Tolley – on the 14th July 2011.

In 2012 the School got the use of the property behind Jalan Kemang Raya No. 70. This allowed for the welcome expansion of the Secondary campus. The project included a covered Basketball/Futsal court, 25 m swimming pool and 8 new classrooms – Block B
