Year 10 goes to Yogyakarta (September 1 – September 3, 2015)
This term 3 is a big assesment for year 10 Indonesian’s class as they have to visit Java’s most visited tourist destination, Yogyakarta. The objectives of this trip is for the students to find out about historical, cultural sites of Yogyakarta. They should gain an insight into the history of Indonesia, Javanese traditional dance (Ramayana Performance). Yogyakarta is consider as epicentre of Javanese art and culture, and is the capital of Daerah Istimewa Yogyakarta, literally the”Special Region of Yogyakarta”, the only region in Indonesia to be headed by monarchy.
Although crowded and chaotic in parts, the city itself is relatively small, so it is possible to walk or to use Becak (bicycle taxis), to get from one city sites to another; particularly if you want to brave bustling Malioboro and its street vendors, or Pasar Beringhardjo a traditional market selling everything from batik to herbs and spices.
